First Love

By Samantha Grady

In Genesis it shows that God is our Creator. That God formed everything that we see and everything that we are. When God created us, He said we were created in His image and that God walked with Adam in the Garden of Eden. This shows the intimate relationship that God had with Adam. God desires the same relationship with you. God wants a living, intimate relationship with you.

Life can be busy and things can contend for our hearts attention and affection. We can even put things before God, some good things including family, our children, jobs and hobbies. From what I have learnt nothing will ever fill your heart like God does. God can love you more then anyone can in a lifetime. His love is unconditional and unchanging. Our heart naturally wants to love and be loved.

“Now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other” John 13:34

God’s heart for us to know that we are loved by Him and to put Him first in our life but then to love others as He has loved us. This is how we start reflecting and imitating God’s love. Love is the very essence of His nature.

When God’s love shines through our lives it proves that we belong to Jesus, we illuminate and radiate His light and reflect His very nature to others. Jesus affirmed this in John 13:35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another”.

Just as God loves you and shows you grace, we have the opportunity to reflect God’s heart by showing people the love we have ourselves received from God. We become more like God when we reflect His very nature, which is to love and accept people as they are, and to show them value and forgiveness just as God shows us.
