War continues to devastate lives around the world. Every day, families are forced from their homes, separated from loved ones, and left searching for safety and hope. Thanks to the compassion of CBN partners around the globe, Operation Blessing is helping provide refuge and restore dignity to those caught in the crisis. Take a read of the Petrenko’s story!
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7-8
In a quiet home in Ukraine, the scent of fresh-baked bread mingles with soft prayers whispered down the hall. Outside, the house may seem ordinary, but something extraordinary is happening inside. Here, global CBN partners are helping the Petrenko* family create a refuge for elderly people who have nowhere else to turn—many of them twice displaced by war.
Their journey began when violence forced them to flee for their lives, “Our friends … were simply shot,” Olena* recalled. “They were killed just for serving God and people.” They escaped with nothing, leaving behind a home that would later be destroyed. The Petrenko’s rebuilt their lives in another part of the country, where they served and cared for their elderly neighbours. Years later, conflict forced them to flee once again. This time, they had far more to lose by leaving. “We looked at those in our care,” Olena said. “They had no one except us. We couldn’t abandon them.”
So, while others packed belongings, the Petrenko’s filled cars with people—frail, hurting, and often counted among the forgotten—and carried them to safety. Today, their home shelters elderly survivors who have lost everything. With food made possible through the generosity of CBN’s global partners, they are fed, cared for, and reminded they are not alone. These simple gifts sustain them and allow them to keep their dignity.
In a world where war tries to steal the future, the generosity of CBN’s global partners is helping bring compassion and hope to survivors of war, including those who have been forgotten. As Scripture reminds us, “Do not cast me off in the time of old age. … O God, do not forsake me” (Psalm 71:9, 18). Through your kindness, He has not.
And the compassion doesn’t stop here. Families fleeing conflict across the border and seeking refuge in a neighbouring country are also receiving care. Recently, food boxes and hygiene kits were delivered to people in need, helping provide practical support as urgent needs arose. Through this ongoing response, hope is reaching those searching for safety.
